He grew up in the state of Maine in the USA. After U.S. Navy service, various colleges and universities, travels throughout North America, Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. and IBM jobs in California, he settled into teaching high school English in Oakland. He later moved to Japan and taught English in and around Tokyo.

UNIVERSAL TAO PRACTITIONER and SENIOR INSTRUCTOR
Dennis began the Tao practices of Master Mantak Chia in 1986 while living in Japan. He has been a certified Universal Tao Instructor since 1992. He moved to Tao Garden Wellness Retreat Center, Health Spa & Resort in Thailand in 1998 as a condominium owner and full-time resident. As an instructor, he has assisted Master Chia during his summer and winter retreat courses, training an interesting array of international participants. He has also served year-round in teaching morning and evening exercises/meditations and private instruction during these years. Dennis has had the training for all of the practices taught by Master Chia at Tao Garden during this time. In 2003, Master Chia conferred to him the status of Senior Instructor in the Universal Tao System.
"I love doing and teaching this system of Chi meditations and exercises because they are so beneficial and important for every level of our integrated being," he says. WRITER AND EDITOR
He also serves as a contributing writer and editor for Universal Tao Publications (Master Chia's books, articles, etc). His two major book contributions are in editing and rewriting the TAO YIN book, recently republished as ENERGY BALANCE THROUGH THE TAO, Exercises for Cultivating Yin Energy. Then, DOOR TO ALL WONDERS, republished as THE SECRET TEACHING OF THE TAO TE CHING.

EXPERIENCE BEFORE THE TAO
A ZaZen sitting with Suzuki Roshi at the Zen Center in San Francisco was Dennis' first exposure to meditation. Later, kundalini energy and out-of-body experiences arose through his hatha and pranayama yoga practice. In meditation, the third eye manifested, providing inner vision experiences that led to initiation into meditation of the Inner Light and Sound Current with guidance of Indian Masters.

SHARE THE WEALTH
Dennis wants to spread his wings and share the wealth. He has returned to Japan several times to teach UNIVERSAL TAO practices. He made a series of six instructional videos that were released in DVD format in 2006 as sets of 3 DVD's per pack. Martin: For me, right from the start I felt the energy very strong and clear. It got even stronger as we went further along. By the end of the 3.5 hours, it was just overwhelming. That was enough, and I was ready to stop. It was a powerful experience, and it was good. Going back to my room in the evening after my course with you, I sensed the energy was still around. It was actually making me aware of some of the blockages or problems that I have---which I take as a positive sign.
It was good energy. At each stage when you were saying "you may feel this...," it was already there. This energy is very powerful. It has given me some clarification of my own energy. To be honest with you, sometimes I'm not sure. But when you actually did the same, it made me feel ah-h-h, wow! So, I was really happy with my experience.
I would recommend this to anybody. They are going to have to recognize that this is energy. This is a fantastic way to recognize it. Going through the organs---some organs, I didn't really feel it too much. If the first time the energy has come quite strong like doing it with you, then I assume that it can get stronger when working with it in the practice.
There is a difference between picking up a piece of paper or a book and trying to do it. When you were instructing me to do it, I was doing it. It was easy for me to be in it, to do it and to feel the energy---not stopping every minute to look at a piece of paper. And, to be able to look at the screen [of the computer] and just clarify what you're saying---it was already there. The pictures on the screen were clear. It was a very good way of learning it. I think that helped me to feel the energy as clear as I did. You actually felt it as well. You felt that there was a strong...

Dennis: "Yes, that's why I was mentioning it to you because for me it was, pr-r-r-r-r-ft [motorboat sound with lips], very strong!" This is part of what an instructor in this system should be able to do. If you have the energy, you can transmit it to the students to give them a boost."

Martin: We've only touched on some of it. I get an energy that comes up and down my legs. I don't know where it's connected to, but it comes with working with a lot of energy. … [Dennis comments: "Well, there's Earth energy coming up."] … Sure, this has happened in the last two days. Before, I had no clarification of what it is.

Dennis: "The minute we just started those warm-up exercises in the beginning, then [with the snapping of his fingers], boom! The energy was just strong and clear for me. That's the idea of standing in the relaxed Horse Stance and drawing the chi in, and then pushing it down as you exhale. This is also part of the cosmic aspect of the practice, you know, in the six-directions. You draw the energy up from below and down from above, etc. So, this is a facet of the Cosmic Inner Heart Smile and Cosmic Healing Sounds that we were doing. I'm glad that you were able to really tune in. I'm sure your previous energy work has enabled you to have a more clear..."

Martin: It has, in a big way. This with you has helped me in a big way, too, with the Reiki. It's allowed me to be able to define lines.
